Sports / NFL — Week 6

The Panthers vs Eagles score finished 25-14 to Carolina at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday, October 18, 2026. Chuba Hubbard carried 28 times for 120 yards and a touchdown, Bryce Young threw for 281 yards and two touchdowns — both to tight end Tommy Tremble — and Carolina scored 12 fourth-quarter points to pull away from an Eagles team playing without Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley. The Panthers improve to 3-2, their first winning record since opening the 2021 season 3-0. Philadelphia falls to 2-4.

PHILADELPHIA — Context matters before anyone calls this an upset. The betting market had actually made Carolina a three-point favourite, because Philadelphia came in without its offensive engine: Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley were both ruled out, Tanner McKee made his first start of the season at quarterback, and the Eagles' injury list ran deep on both sides of the ball. Carolina, fresh off its bye and a 32-26 win over Detroit in Week 4, was supposed to win this game. The news is that — for once — the Panthers did exactly what they were supposed to do, on the road, in a stadium that usually swallows visiting teams whole.

Ryan Fitzgerald opened the scoring with a 47-yard field goal. Early in the second quarter, a 23-yard Braden Mann punt handed Carolina a short field, and even after an intentional-grounding penalty pushed the Panthers back to second-and-20, a roughing-the-passer call on Jordan Davis revived the drive and Young found Tremble for a 12-yard touchdown and a 10-0 lead. Philadelphia answered before half-time — McKee led a 10-play, 78-yard drive and Dameon Pierce scored from two yards — to make it 10-7 at the break, with Carolina outgaining the Eagles 178 to 110.

The fourth quarter belonged to Carolina

Fitzgerald's 52-yard field goal stretched the lead to 13-7 in the third, and then Hubbard took the game over. His one-yard touchdown finished a 14-play, 92-yard drive early in the fourth quarter for 19-7 — the two-point try failed — and even when McKee answered by hitting DeVonta Smith for a 19-yard touchdown to cut it to 19-14 with 10:42 left, Carolina did not flinch. A short Eagles punt gave the Panthers another short field, and Young hit Tremble again, this time from 19 yards with 6:38 remaining, for 25-14. Tremble celebrated with a Rocky routine in the city that invented Rocky — a detail the Panthers' own site savoured. Rookie safety Zakee Wheatley broke up McKee's fourth-down shot to Smith late, and Hubbard ground out the first downs that ended it.

The numbers behind the Panthers Eagles score

Young finished 20 of 39 for 281 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions — not efficient, but decisive when it mattered, and Tetairoa McMillan's five catches for 79 yards kept the chains moving early. Tremble caught all four of his targets for 46 yards and both scores. Hubbard's 120 rushing yards came the hard way, behind an offence that kept shooting itself with penalties: Carolina's 149 penalty yards were a franchise record, the single biggest reason a game the Panthers controlled stayed within one score for so long. On the other side, Philadelphia managed just 3.6 yards per play. Pierce ran for 35 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries, Smith caught seven passes for 75 yards and the late score, and that was close to the whole offence. Carolina's defence, led by Will Lee IV's work on Smith for most of the afternoon, did what it should do against a backup quarterback and a makeshift line — nothing more, nothing less.

There was a milestone buried in the grind, too: long snapper JJ Jansen became the league's all-time leader in games played by a long snapper, a record the Panthers marked on the day.

Why this matters

For Carolina, the significance is not the scalp — a depleted Philadelphia team at home is a game a rising team is meant to win — it is the manner and the record. At 3-2, the Panthers have a winning record for the first time since September 2021, they have won with the run game and defence rather than needing Young to be spectacular, and they did it despite a franchise-record penalty day that would have buried previous Panthers teams. Dave Canales' side beat Detroit in a shootout in Week 4 and won a street fight in Week 6; winning two different ways in three weeks is what actual progress looks like.

For Philadelphia, 2-4 with Hurts on injured reserve is a season slipping into triage. McKee was competitive, the defence under Vic Fangio largely gave the Eagles a chance, and Smith played like a man trying to drag the offence with him — but 3.6 yards per play and a special-teams collapse in field position told the real story. The Eagles' question is no longer seeding; it is whether the season is still alive when Hurts returns.

What happens next

Carolina hosts the division-rival Tampa Bay Buccaneers next Sunday with first-place implications in the NFC South — a game that will test whether this run game travels against a better front. Philadelphia's season now turns entirely on the injury list: every week without Hurts and Barkley narrows the margin for a wild-card run to almost nothing. The Panthers, meanwhile, get to spend a week doing something they have not done in four years — defending a winning record instead of chasing one.
